In recent weeks, you may have noticed unstable operation or even complete outages of our search engine. We would like to openly share with you what is happening behind the scenes and apologize for all the inconveniences.
We understand how frustrating these disruptions are, especially considering that in the past, our technical problems were rare and short-lived—typically lasting a maximum of two minutes, and occurring sporadically, once every few months. Unfortunately, over the past two months, our team has had to face a series of serious and unforeseen challenges.
Recent Technical Challenges
Here is a summary of the key incidents that have affected MevaSearch’s availability:
- Temporary Server Failure: One of the initial problems arose from an attempt to react quickly to an outage by our main hosting provider. We wanted to ensure operational continuity by swiftly switching to a temporary server, which unfortunately caused instability in itself.
- Domain Change: Another factor was the change of our main domain from mevasearch.org to mevasearch.com. Although short-lived, this operation also impacted the availability of the service.
- Two Long-Term Infrastructure Failures: The last two incidents were the most severe:
- An outage that occurred on November 18 and lasted approximately 4 hours.
- An outage that began on November 24 at 0:00 and lasted approximately 2 hours.
While the initial failures were relatively short and did not exceed 10 minutes, the last two, long-term downtimes were caused by a serious infrastructure failure on the part of our hosting provider.
We want to emphasize that the source of these failures lies outside the direct control of the MevaSearch Team. Unfortunately, we are unable to prevent infrastructure failures that originate with the external hosting provider upon whom we rely for our service.
We are extremely sorry for the situation that has arisen. We understand and fully share the frustration of our users. We are actively working to minimize the impact of these events on your experience, and we are also thoroughly analyzing options for changing providers or creating a second, emergency server to ensure greater reliability for you in the future.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult period. Your trust is our priority, and the stability of MevaSearch remains our overarching goal.
Sincerely, The MevaSearch Team.
